Building The Future

NPRCities launched a submission round for “The heart of your city?” Everyone is welcomed to submit sounds or photos to express their favorite part of their favorite city. I submitted the upper photo!

"And even if your local office of tourism has never heard of it, we want to know what and where it is. We want you to share the heart of your city with us. Is it the subway platform? The view from your favorite bridge?”

Yes, it is exactly the view from a special bridge in my hometown, Berlin. The Modersohnbrücke is the most secret and special spot to watch a typical Berlin sunset. It is relatively unknown to tourists, but is developing more and more into a place where young people relax, have a drink, watch the sunset and then go on to some parties around Friedrichshain/Kreuzberg. The view onto Warschauer Strasse, the TV-Tower, passing trains, empty industrial areas and graffity spreads a feeling of a wonderful big city romance. This place is Berlin.
